The McHenry County Conservation District
owns or manages over 18,000 acres of beautiful open land with young and old
trees, prairies, wetlands, ponds, creeks, and rivers. Our 19 open conservation
areas include trails, picnic facilities, shelters, camp sites, fishing sites,
rare plant and animal examples, educational facilities w/educators, and more:

One of MCCD's goals is to foster a conservation ethic among McHenry County
citizens helping all of us, regardless of the basis for our interest in
nature, to develop a greater awareness of our role in, and responsibility for,
the total community of life. A conservation ethic asks us to assume a moral
duty to become educated about conservation issues and then to act on that
information. A conservation ethic is an attitude that recognizes the
importance of preserving the natural heritage of the county's open space.

from the Showplace Movie Theater. Open 1st Saturday of month from 9:00 a.m. to
1:00 p.m. through December 1st. Closed for winter.

McHenry
Buy-back and drop-off center. Located in the
Chicago & Northwestern train station parking lot south of Main Street. Open
Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. NOTE: McHenry will be open only on the
2nd, 4th Saturdays of each month.

Woodstock
1146 McConnell Road (location is behind the
Farm Bureau next to Social Security building) at Rte. 47. Hours are 8:00am to
1:00pm Wednesday, Friday & Saturdays.
