Island Lake Homes
Island Lake homes form a small community located on
Rt. 176, and is divided into two counties, Lake and McHenry. This little
community of homes only has a population of about eight thousand people and it is know
for its parks and beaches. This town is proud of having one of the most active
Lions Clubs, an organization to sponsor local events, in the area.

Island Lake was incorporated in 1950.
Parks and Beaches
Island Lake's 78-acre lake offers
residents year-round recreation with fishing, swimming, boating and ice
skating. The Fox River is another popular attraction for boating, water skiing
and fishing. Recreational facilities and classes are also available through
the village's Recreation Program. Several golf courses, Fox River Forest
Preserve, Lakewood Forest Preserve and Moraine Hills State Park are within a
short driving distance.
Eastway Park is located on Eastway Drive north of Route 176. There is a
boat launch, plenty of room for playing and picnicing. It is also where the
annual "LAKEFEST" is held (July 17th).
Briar Beach is located just north of Eastway Park. It can be reached by
continuing northbound on Eastway Drive then making a left onto Briar, the

Schools, Housing and Transportation
Schools
Students in Island Lake attend both Wauconda
Unit School District #118 and McHenry schools. District #118 has an enrollment
of 3,547 students. There are parochial schools in Wauconda and Barrington.

The 2000 median house value was $144,300 and
the median rent cost was $934. (U.S. Census Bureau, 2000)
Government Services
Police protection is provided by the Island Lake Police Department's 17 sworn
officers. The Wauconda Fire District with its two stations, one located in
Island Lake, provides fire protection for the village.
Transportation
State Rte. 176, River Road, and Roberts Road
provide access to nearby communities and major highways.
